Anyone thinking of joining us for a week
long holiday will be able to look forward
to the  delights of walking in Aggtelek, an
area famed not only for it's outstanding
beauty and karst formations but also for
the several protected species of wild life
found here.

We have several tours on offer, both
above and underground and once again
there are tours suitable for all abilities.

Aggtelek lies very close to the Slovakian
border, in the Gömör-Torna Karst region,
in fact the underground cave system extends into Slovakia and it is also possible to enter the
caves from Slovakian side.

Aggtelek National Park was the first national park in Hungary which was founded for protecting
inanimate values; land formations and caves. It covers almost 20 thousand hectares and was
declared a protected landscape area in 1978, it became a national park seven years later. Also
Aggtelek is a breeding ground for the protected Hazel Grouse, Black Storks and Corncrakes.
Ural Owls, Honey Buzzards and rock Buntings can also be found here too.

The  Park lies mostly on limestone formed in shallow seas during the Triassic, about 210-240
an average altitude of 600 m are unique in Europe. Around 262 caves are registered in the
national park. Aggtelek National Park is also home to one of Europe's largest stalactite caves.
The Baradla Cave is a World Heritage site and, according to scientists, is one of the world's
most wonderful geographic phenomena.

The caves of the Aggtelek Karst and the Slovak Karst were inscribed on the UNESCO World
Heritage List in 1995.

                                          Underground tours

We also have several underground tours on offer but please note that most of them, due to the
uneven surfaces, will not be suitable for everyone. These vary in lengths from a 1 hour tour
through the Baradla Cave (suitable for almost everyone) to a 7 hour tour which enables you to
visit an underground lake, The Hall of Wonders and a 4 km section with no illumination.

Warm clothes  are needed for all of the underground cave tours as the temperature is  a
constant +10 C Walking boots are recommended.
